Five Percent of LA School Contracts to go to DVBEs

It could equal millions of dollars in contracts.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has committed to awarding five percent of contracts to Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBEs) in order to give them an opportunity to compete to provide goods or services.

Jack Ochoa, CEO of the Veterans Chamber of Commerce has taken initiative to help veteran-owners like himself grow and gain the knowledge and take the actions necessary to qualify for federal government contracts. “According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there are 16,000 veteran businesses here in L.A. County alone,” he said. “But a lot of them don’t know that they need to register, like they don’t even know the beginning steps of registering with the federal government [so that] they can get counted.” 

With the new resolution, LAUSD will award veteran-owned businesses and micro-businesses preference and even more opportunities for businesses to compete for contracts. Thanks to Ochoa and others in his support, the impact on DVBEs and micro-businesses could potentially mean millions of dollars in contracts.
